Washington: Citing the massacre of innocents in Newtown to gunning down of Sikh worshippers in Oak Creek, a tearful President Barack Obama vowed to curb gun violence by sidestepping the Congress.

“Second Amendment rights (to bear arms) are important, but there are other rights that we care about as well,” said Obama in the White House East Room yesterday, flanked by relatives of the mass shootings victims.
Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan, said the President had never respected the Second Amendment and that his speech and his actions “amount to a form of intimidation that undermines liberty.”
Obama, wiping away tears as he pleaded to be more resolute in tackling gun violence, announced measures to tighten federal background checks for gun sales, require gun sellers to be licensed or face criminal prosecution, and expand mental health treatment.
