Bruce Springsteen and Sir Paul McCartney had the plug pulled on them when they breached a curfew at Hard Rock Calling in Hyde Park, London

The former Beatle joined Springsteen on stage for the climax of his headline set and they performed I Saw Her Standing There together.

The legends then launched into Twist And Shout, but the sound was cut before they finished the song and they were unable to address the crowd.

Springsteen had been due to finish at 10:15 pm, but his customary marathon set — which also included guest performances from Rage Against The Machine’s Tom Morello — overran and went past the 10:30 pm ‘noise curfew’ for the event.
Westminster Council said Hard Rock Calling’s organisers had taken the decision to cut the sound.

“Tonight’s Hyde Park Concert was finished by organisers. They were sticking to their licence for the event,” it said via its Twitter account.

Fans were unhappy about the development and vented their anger on the microblogging site. Actor Stephen Merchant tweeted, “Ashamed to be British right now. Springsteen and McCartney playing Twist & Shout in Hyde Park and council pulled the plug cos of curfew. WTF.”

McFly’s Dougie Poynter said, “The guy that just pulled the plug on Springsteen and McCartney will not be getting laid tonight.”

‘England a police state’
Steven Van Zandt, a guitarist in Bruce Springsteen’s E-Street Band, has accused England of becoming “police state” after The Boss was silenced for breaching a council curfew. He tweeted, “One of the great gigs ever in my opinion. But seriously, when did England become a police state?” He then added, “The cops got nothing more important to do? How about they go catch some criminals instead of f****** with 80,000 people having a good time?”
