That terrorist informed the other attackers waiting to ambush the convoy of the precise route it was taking to the Gaddafi Stadium, said a Lahore police official, Haji Habibur Rehman.
Images from closed-circuit television cameras released in Pakistan on Wednesday night showed how easily the terrorists escaped from the scene at the busy Liberty roundabout.
The images showed two of the terrorists calmly walking down an empty alley not far from the traffic circle after the attack. In the alley, the two men met another man on a motorcycle.
The terrorists, carrying backpacks, jumped on the motorcycle. The three drove off. There was no sign of any pursuing police officers or of any security in the alley.
Sketches released
Yesterday, under pressure over the security lapses evident in the attack, police released sketches of men suspected of involvement. Drawings of four suspects with short dark hair and dark eyes were broadcast on television and displayed around Lahore. Two of the suspects were shown with moustaches. One was clean-shaven and the fourth had thin upper-lip hair.
"Investigators are working around the clock to track down the perpetrators and the terrorists," Rehman said. "Raids are being mounted, leads are being followed. We are doing our best to unravel the conspiracy."
Muhammad Ashger, a hostel owner, said police arrested about 13 students at his premises late on Tuesday.
Police said they recovered a rocket launcher and bloodstained clothes from the hostel. It has been reported that the discovery of a mobile phone led to the arrest of one strong suspect.
