Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi's eye has been donated. Dr Neeraj Jain, the physician at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, where the former India captain passed away last evening after battling a lung infection, confirmed this to MiD DAY.
"Pataudi had expressed this wish a long time ago. Accordingly, we were informed by his family members today and his eye was donated," Dr Jain said. "Eyes are the only organs that can be donated after death," added Dr SP Byotra, another physician at the hospital.
Pataudi played cricket at the highest level with one eye after a car accident at the age of 20, permanently damaged vision in his right eye. Pataudi's funeral will be held at the family's burial ground at Pataudi, near Gurgaon this afternoon.
