No intention to resign, says PCB chief Butt

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ejaz Butt has rubbished reports of his resignation due to ill-health, saying he has no intention of putting down his papers at the moment and is working hard to bring cricket back on track in the strife-torn nation.

Referring to media reports about his imminent resignation, Butt said he underwent an eye operation but was totally fit and keen to fulfill his responsibilities as board Chairman.

"This (reports of resignation) is not true at all. I have no intention to resign. I am working hard to bring about improvement in Pakistan cricket and overcome its problems," he said.

There had been reports about PCB chief patron, President Asif Zardari, losing confidence in Butt's ability to head cricket affairs and critics pointed out that the sudden reinstatement of Javed Miandad as director general and advisor to the Chairman is an indication of changes in the offing.

But Butt said he had received no such indications and since President Zardari had appointed him only he could remove him. "Miandad's return to the board is a very good omen and his reinstatement is part of a policy to reorganise board affairs and ensure that every person does his job professionally and within his ambit," Butt said.

He said it was a wrong impression that all directors would be reporting to Miandad. "Miandad has been given a very important assignment and we need his expertise. But the rest of the directors will work according to their job description. I will ensure there is no conflict of interest between the directors," he said.

He also said there were no widespread changes planned in the board set-up but directors of marketing and media would be appointed soon and advertisements for these posts had already been given out in newspapers.
