I think Bengal will win this time. They are bowling really well. The bowlers will get extra help at the Eden Gardens. There will be enough bounce to extract.

For me, Akash Deep is the best upcoming medium pacer - world class, physically fit and rhythmic in his run-up.

He does have a special knack of taking wickets. I am sure he will be picked for the Indian team soon, but at the moment, he is a great asset for Bengal.

Yes, Saurashtra have Jaydev Unadkat for the final, but I don’t think one Unadkat can win it for his Ranji team.

Bengal would like to take revenge over Saurashtra since they lost the Ranji final a few years ago. They should be doubly charged up to win this time.

Let’s not forget Manoj Tiwary and his team will be playing in their backyard. It will be an added advantage for Bengal  and they will be backed up by the crowd.

However, they shouldn’t get carried away. Five days are a long time. If Bengal lose, it would be their fault. If Saurashtra win, we have to accept that they played really well.

Be calm and steady would be my advice.

Coach Laxmi Ratan Shukla has not experienced a Ranji Trophy triumph as a player. This will be a golden opportunity for him and mind you, he is coach of Bengal
for the first time. Same is the case with captain Tiwary. If Bengal bat according to their ability, they will prosper and there are no worries as far as their bowling is concerned.

As told to Debasish Datta
