Saina through, Jayaram exits

Ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal won her opening game of the Asia Badminton Championship at Qingdao, China yesterday. World No 5 Saina defeated China's Kaori Imabeppu 21-9, 21-12 to set up a second round clash with China's Xiao Jia Chen in the women's singles competition today.

Meanwhile, World No 16 Indian pair V Diju and Jwala Gutta beat Indonesian pair Riky Widianto and Puspita Richi Dili 21-16 21-18 in the mixed doubles.

In the men’s singles event, India’s top shuttler Ajay Jayaram went down fighting 22-24, 21-11, 15-21 to Wei Nan of Hong Kong over three games in the second round.
