Adhuna Bhabani

Once called Bollywood’s numero uno hairstylist, Adhuna Bhabani, has been known to be a trendsetter. After a hugely successful Bollywood career, she started a hair salon chain, BBLUNT. After selling her stake at BBlunt and co-founding a yogurt brand, Adhuna seems to be enjoying a quieter life in Goa.

In an exclusive interview with parenting platform, parentune.com, Adhuna spoke about her parenting journey at length. In the video she talks about raising her and ex-husband, Farhan Akhtar’s two daughters Akira and Shakya Akhtar through their various growing stages.

Adhuna’s Surprising Revelation

In the interview, Adhuna shared a deeply personal revelation about her parenting journey, shedding light on a pivotal decision that redefined her elder daughter Shakya’s educational path. Adhuna mentions that this decision stemmed from the big change when Shakya’s school made a big curriculum switch from IGCSE to IB. “It was like the kids were an experiment”, Adhuna says.

Adhuna mentions that her daughter had a tough time adjusting to it which is when they decided to try home schooling. “It was only because Shakya was so committed to it that we were able to get through it. She was self motivated and managed to do all the work herself with minimal guidance from me. It worked for her because of her nature."

She further added, "When Shakya moved on to applying to universities after being home-schooled, it worked well for her because she's a quick learner. However, I don't really agree with everything about the education system, it's hard particularly if your children are more creatively inclined. I had discussions with many parents when I was going through the schooling experience and the consensus was that the system needs to change."

Adhuna’s candid narrative not only highlights the success of homeschooling for her daughter but also sparks a broader conversation about how traditional education systems are in need of a reform.
