The Narcotics Control Bureau zonal director Sameer Wankhede, who is hell-bent on unearthing the Bollywood-drugs nexus, has a film connection at home. His wife is actor Kranti Redkar, who starred in Prakash Jha’s Ajay Devgn-starrer Gangaajal (2003). She has been part of several Marathi films, including Karaar (2017), No Entry Pudhe Dhoka Aahey (2012) and wielded the directorial baton for Kaakan (2015). Gauri’s girl gang visits Mannat

Maheep Kapoor, Gauri Khan, Seema Khan and Neelam Kothari

There has been a steady stream of visitors at Mannat. After Salman Khan and Alvira Khan Agnihotri, Gauri Khan’s besties, Seema Khan, Maheep Kapoor and Neelam Kothari Soni, dropped in to comfort G (as they call her) in testing times. It’s Gauri’s birthday on October 8. She turns 51. Probably the best gift she would ever receive is to see son Aryan home.

Squid Game, Luck: Same, same but different

Squid Game

The South Korean series, Squid Game, has grabbed attention worldwide, but it’s déjà vu for some desi viewers. The latest rage on Netflix is about the rich taking advantage of those in need of money by pitting them against each other in deadly games with a jackpot to be won. B-Town die-hards pointed out that Soham Shah’s Luck (2009), starring Sanjay Dutt, Imran Khan and Shruti Haasan, had a similar premise with Dutt’s character in need of finances for his wife’s surgery. In Squid Game, the character Seong Gi-hun needs money to pay for his mother’s operation. “It’s the same story but presented better than Luck,” a fan tweeted. “It’s the TV show form of the movie,” posted another. “Bollywood did it first, y’all,” reminded a user. Time to revisit Luck?
