Spiritual connection
Indulge: Gai hor baitaey (succulent morsels of chicken wrapped in pandanas leaves), Tub tim grob (water chestnut rubies served in chilled coconut milk) and Chochee pla (fish stir fired with red curry paste and makrut leaves) |
I had a sip of the Tom Yam Talay (an array of mixed seafood with flat glazed rice noodles in a spicy Thai soup) and felt it was best to forego it.
There are some rare combinations of authentic Thai dishes and piquant seasonings, from the pleasantly mild to the intensely spicy.
Spicy affair
I tried Khao Pod Tod Nam Prik Pow (babycorn tossed with herbs and spices and served in rice tartlets), which tasted fresh. Goong Tod samunpai (prawns tossed with tamarind sauce) was tangy, yet not overpowering. Next on the appetizers list was the Gai Hor Bai Taey (chicken wrapped in pandanus leaves and deep-fried), which was oily and slightly overdone, so I didn't venture further and chose to head to the main course.u00a0
Chochee pla (fish stir fired with red curry paste and makrut leaves) tasted good with rice. Benjarong also offers one meal dish and Thai set meal for lunch only on weekdays (for Rs 248 onwards). The han glang wahn is a Thai set lunch, which has veg and non-veg options like Khao Pod Pahd Phed baby corn stir fried with red curry paste and pepper corns served on a bed of rice, Pahd Thai rice sticks tossed with sweet, sour and spicy sauce and prawns or vegetables, and Khao Mok Gai Rue Phak the Thai version of chicken or vegetable biryani with Thai herbs and spices. Don't neglect the Tub tim grob, which is quite inimitable and is made of water chestnut rubies in chilled coconut milk.u00a0

Kebabs and more
A visit to one of the well known restaurants in the city will you craving for more.
Copper Chimney, located in the heart of the city, has the right ambience for a couple on a romantic outing. Located on the fifth floor of Bangalore Central, Copper Chimney is offering unlimited kebabs as part of its ongoing barbeque festival.
Since I already had a hearty meal for lunch, I started with the Flying Kiwi Moctail. It had a very tangy taste, but I liked it because it was a refreshing change. I started with the mutton sheekh kebab and it wasn't exceptional. But it was the chicken malai tikka which woke my taste buds. I couldn't stop myself from taking the second serving. Though I am a hard core non-vegetarian, I tried the paneer tikka. As the manager boasted, it was indeed their speciality.
I wanted to try a whole array of kebabs, but the meal at noon prevented me from stuffing myself. So I directly jumped to the main course, which had murgh makhani, vegetarian pulao and dal. Since I am a dal freak, I tried their dal and taftan, an Indian bread. It was a good combination and is a must try. The dal was just right and taftan was so soft that it just melted in my mouth.
I wanted to end the meal without a dessert, but with a terrible sweet tooth like mine, I was tempted by the malai phirini. It was a great way to end the meal though more than three spoons of malai phirini makes you feel stuffed.
