Why shouldn't a bed readily transform into a broomstick or a closet form the gateway to a magical realm? Encourage imagination...it's possibly one of the best gifts you can give your child. Throw in a pile of junk, and you have what Thomas Edison called the key ingredients for a good invention.

Avan Mehta and Anjali Anand would have grown-ups jump on the fantasyland bandwagon too with murals so magical, they can literally transport anyone to any place. If you feel suffocated by the city, they can arrange it so you wake up in the English countryside every morning; if you can't drag your child away from the football field, they can make sure you never have to. Paints are what they use to stir up their magic, though, so don't go to their exhibition expecting to spot a cauldron or an owl. They don't have a book of spells either, but you can go through their portfolio and marvel at the bunk bed they transformed into a country cottage for some lucky children or envy the little boy who'll always find himself in the midst of an action-packed cricket match thanks to their wall-art.

Tracing her fingers over a matt gold bird-cage in one picture, Avan explains, "This is actually 3 dimensional, so half the cage protrudes out of the wall and there are crystals dangling from its base." Mainly painted in shades of beige in keeping with the colours on the drapes in the room, that mural was painted to add a nursery-like feel to the part of a couple's bedroom which was designated for their newborn's cot. "Embellishing a whole room can cost between Rs 15,000 to Rs 35,000," says Avan, taking us through images of 3D wall-art they created for B Blunt Salon and then through the charming interiors they fashioned for Little Palms, a nursery school at Babulnath which must undoubtedly turn out a bunch of beaming babies. But you're not limited to picking something from their portfolio, Anjali tells us confidently, "We can create whatever you have in mind."

Avan and Anjali also create eclectic single pieces which make for wonderful gifts. They also specialise in creating personalised stationery ufffd we especially loved the crystal-embellished gift-tags ufffd for which they prefer a week's notice. These can be ordered at their exhibition, where you'll also find their range of dinosaur, snail and butterfly clocks, seahorse and rocket hook sets, trinket boxes and personalised canvases.

Idea-Wise hand-painted wall art and accessories' kids' exhibition will be on from December 3 to December 5 at Contemporary Arts and Crafts, 19, Napeansea Road; call: 9820932809 or e-mail [email protected]
