Two resident doctors at Sassoon hospital were involved in a fight that left one of them severely injured last week.
On Thursday evening, Dr Kunal Tadge (26), an anaesthetist and secretary of Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) who lives in Sassoon's hostel, was severely beaten by Dr Pramod Ghuge over a petty quarrel in the hospital's canteen.
Ghuge, who is a resident doctor from the medicine department, has been absconding since the
incident.
K T Sukhase, administrative officer, Sassoon, said a five-member committee under Dr S V Ghorpade has been formed to investigate the incident.
According to sources at the hospital who saw the fight, Ghuge rammed Tadge's head against the canteen wall several times that led to severe bleeding and head injuries.

Only after the interns intervened was the fight stopped and Tadge admitted to the hospital.
Sources said Ghuge also threatened Tadge, saying he had close contacts with the police.
Unhappy over the incident, Dr Arun Jamkar, dean of Sassoon Hospital, said, "Such exhibition of goondaism is not expected of doctors."
He condemned Gughe and said, "One doctor hit another and the latter is suffering from serious brain oedema. It is fortunate that he could recover and has been discharged from our hospital. The committee will take the decision about Ghuge as per the principles of natural justice."
The Bund Garden police have booked Ghuge under section 326 (hitting on head) of the IPC. Police Sub Inspector Ashok Randive, who is investigating the case, said no information was made available about Ghuge except his room number, 332, at the Sassoon quarters.
"Nobody is co-operating with us in arresting Ghuge," he charged.
